Actually, that was his definition of insanity.

How insane is it that the conservatives have chosen to conserve two failed leaders as their leaders once again?

The LNP said it wanted a fresh approach after the failed Newman experiment.

Can anyone spot the fresh approach bearing in mind Lawrence Springborg led the Opposition to glorious defeats in the elections of 2004, 2006 and 2009?

John-Paul Langbroek was leader of the Opposition from 2009-11 but his colleagues decided he hadn’t got what it took to lead them to victory and he was deposed.

More recently both men have experienced failures in the Newman Government.

Health Minister Mr Springborg is still boasting about his surgery-on-time guarantee made possible by cutting a waiting list of 6,500 to virtually nil. What he won’t discuss is the fact that the waiting list to get on the waiting list rose from 220,000 in 2012 to 411,283 – an increase of about 191,000.

And Education Minister Mr Langbroek is responsible for the number of oversize prep to year 3 classes rising from 8% to 13% and oversize year 4-7 classes rising from 5% to 11%.

Another example of doing the same thing over and over again is the repeating the mantra that the Newman Government has been a good economic manager.

Mr Springborg repeated this lie again at the media conference following his selection.

Fact: The general government debt for 2011/12 was $29.5 billion. It is projected to be $46 billion this year, despite the fact that it sold assets worth $10 billion.

Fact: The Newman Government promised a fiscal surplus of $652 million for 2014/15. It is now forecasting a loss of $2.842 billion.

The LNP also said it wanted a new leader with a more empathetic approach. As contender Fiona Simpson said, they needed a fresh approach after the harsh style of the Newman Government.

People with a long memory may remember this cartoon by Sean Leahy in 2003 after Mr Springborg had launched an entirely unfounded smear campaign against Premier Peter Beattie from the protection of parliament.

The smear rebounded completely, leaving Mr Springborg and his Liberal and National Party colleagues as the only ones smelling of ordure.

Surely, it can only be a matter of time before Mr Sprinborg is replaced by a real cleanskin with no identified failures to his name such as Scott Emerson.
